Fiordland Lobster Company in legendary new partnership with Badminton New Zealand.

We have been named as an official partner of the Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Badminton Open and will also support the New Zealand National Badminton Team contesting the Sudirman Cup in 2019.

This innovative new partnership connects us, New Zealand’s largest exporter of live rock lobster, with the world through the huge global reach of the Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Badminton Open. Supporting the New Zealand National Badminton Team also provides a unique opportunity to back the performance players who will compete at the World Team Championships (the Sudirman Cup) in Nanning, China.

Badminton New Zealand Chief Executive Joe Hitchcock:

“We are excited to be partnering with the Fiordland Lobster Company to connect a truly kiwi product to the global game of badminton. The Fiordland Lobster Company share a special piece of New Zealand with the world through their premium brand and product and we’re excited to be part of their story.”

Badminton New Zealand have strong connections to key export markets in Asia through the Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Badminton Open which has a two-day broadcast live into China, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Denmark.

“Badminton in New Zealand and around the world is growing rapidly and it is fantastic that we can work with the Fiordland Lobster Company to utilise badminton as a vehicle for connecting people, communities and countries.”

Badminton is a widely followed sport in our key China market, and the recently established Auckland tournament is growing in stature within the world series. The Chinese champion is expected to return in 2019 to defend his title at this Open, and games will be broadcast live by Chinese TV stations, as well as re-run on sports channels in the months that follow. It’s a really interesting opportunity to reinforce our NZ-China linkages.
